Roberto Osuna leaves the game, will have an MRI

Astros closer Roberto Osuna left Saturday’s game with an arm injury and the manager Dusty baker told reporters that Osuna would be traveling from Anaheim to Houston for an MRI. Facing his third batter in the ninth inning last night, Osuna pitched to the Angels Jason Castro and immediately motioned for the trainer to visit the mound. The right-hander was removed and replaced by Cy Sneed. In the short term, Osuna’s injury most likely cost Houston the game, as Castro hit an RBI brace to tie the game, and the Angels went on to score the winning run in 10th. But Saturday’s loss could be a relatively minor issue compared to a potentially serious arm issue for Osuna, especially given how the Astros’ launch staff have already been ravaged by injuries.

Chris Devenski, Brad Peacock, Joe Biagini, José Urquidy, Austin Pruitt, and current winner of the AL Cy Young Award Justin Verlander are all on the injured list, while Ryan Pressly I just got home from a sore elbow. The Astros have made a few recent acquisitions (signing Fernando Rodney and acquire Hector Velazquez of the Orioles) to help fill in their pitching depth, although there isn’t much that can be done to replace that many pitchers left out.

If Osuna’s MRI revealed bad news, his loss would be especially difficult for the Astros. Osuna has a 2.45 ERA, 6.33 K / BB, and 9.3 K / 9 over 92 innings since joining the Blue Jays Astros in July 2018. Pressly could be the first choice for situations. backup with Osuna sidelined, although the club may want to relieve Pressly of returning to action given that Saturday marked his first game of the season.
