Return of Vodafone service after outage across UK left thousands unable to access internet

Vodafone crossed the UK today, leaving thousands of customers unable to access 4G internet and make calls for three hours.

The problem appears to have arisen shortly after 9:20 a.m. this morning.

Complaints about the Vodafone service peaked around 10:51 a.m. this morning, with nearly 3,000 reports, according to the Downdetector fault tracking website.

Particular hot spots appear to have included London and the south of England, as well as Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Vodafone now encourages any user affected by the problem to restart their devices.

MailOnline has contacted Vodafone for comment on the cause of the outage.

“We are aware of a network update that is causing signal and connection issues for clients,” Vodafone spokesperson Katie wrote on Twitter.

“We can confirm that our engineers are striving to restore service as a top priority. Sorry for any inconvenience caused while fixing this issue.

At 12:31 p.m., Vodafone tweeted that the issue had been resolved.

“We just heard from us that this should all be resolved. Can you donate your device[s] a quick reboot for me please, ”wrote Vodafone spokesperson Liam.

Disappointed customers took to Twitter to complain and see if they weren’t the only ones affected by the outage.

She also drew attention to the status of the company’s network checker, which displayed the error “HTTP Error 503. The service is not available”.

Since the tweet was posted, the network checker has been reinstated.

Meanwhile, Vodafone UK Business customer Alex Donaldson tweeted that he had both ‘no connection’ and ‘signal issues’, while Colin Gallacher responded that non-business customers were also having issues with the service.
