PSG and Manchester City “come in late for Gabriel Magalhaes as £ 22million defender agreed to join Arsenal on five-year contract with Lille”

  • Arsenal close to closing deal for the highly regarded Brazilian
  • However, PSG and Manchester City have contacted representatives of Magalhaes
  • Napoli also sent a last minute offer to try and sabotage Arsenal’s plans

PSG and Manchester City have reached out to representatives of Gabriel Magalhaes over a possible deal, as Arsenal are set to sign it, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol on Twitter.

The Gunners agreed to a £ 22million fee earlier this week and were set to hand the Lille center-back on a five-year deal.

However, the Brazilian has proven to be in demand, with a number of elite European clubs trying to get started.

The 22-year-old has had a solid Ligue 1 season, helping Lille to a fourth place and Europa League qualification, and he has generated a lot of interest.

Napoli also sent a last-minute offer to try and sabotage Arsenal’s plans, after also agreeing on fees.

But he is expected to turn down the Napoli club after previously speaking with former Arsenal football manager Raul Sanllehi. Since then, he has spoken with technical director Edu and boss Mikel Arteta about the move, and the London club are still favorites for his signing.

The Gunners have also fought interest from Everton, who has now withdrawn his offer.

It remains to be seen whether he will be tempted to stay in France with a move to PSG, especially given their excellent run in the Champions League so far this season. They will face Bayern Munich in the final this Sunday.

Manchester City could be another tempting option, as they finished 25 points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League campaign last season.
