The Duke of Sussex, 35, gave the opening speech on Thursday at a virtual world summit for his sustainable tourism project Travalyst.
Speaking via video link from his home in Los Angeles, he urged the travel industry to “build back better” after the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “We have to rebuild – but we have to rebuild better.
“And that means there is a responsibility, a responsibility that we cannot avoid or dismiss, for us to reshape this industry in a way that benefits everyone and everything for decades to come. ”
The Duke’s appearance was the first after new details about her and Meghan’s life around the royal family were revealed in the new Finding Freedom biography.
Scobie claimed the earthquake woke Harry up, since it happened around 4:29 a.m. local time, the Express reports.
The royal expert, who is close to both Harry and Meghan, said: “He didn’t just run this summit around midnight his time in Los Angeles so that as many people as possible could join him. .
“There was also a second part around 8 am UK time, and it was in the middle of that, around 4:29 am, that an earthquake hit Los Angeles.
“And that probably would have been felt by the Sussexes, so I’m sure a little sleep was well deserved by the Duke after that.” ”
The earthquake was most strongly felt in the San Fernando epicenter.
No damage or fatalities were reported, but around 60 smaller aftershocks followed the initial earthquake.
Many celebrities felt the earthquake and shared their reactions on social media.
“Oh man !! Khloe Kardashian wrote. “Wow, that was a lot bigger than a 4.5 # earthquake. So scary! Sneakers and my flashlight by my bed. ”
“Maybe I should get out of bed and put on something cute in case I suddenly run away…” Jennifer Tilly wrote.
Prince Harry launched his new environmental travel project, which was co-founded with travel agencies TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Ctrip, Visa and Skyscanner, last year.
Named “Travalyst”, the aim of the project is to explore and promote solutions to make travel more sustainable.
This includes supporting local populations, protecting wildlife, combating climate change and environmental damage, and reducing over-tourism.
Meghan and Harry find freedom
Prince Harry said in a statement: “Travel has the unmatched power to open people’s minds to different cultures, to new experiences and to have a deep appreciation for what our world has to offer.
“As tourism inevitably grows, it is of crucial importance to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices around the world and to balance this growth with the needs of the environment and the local population.
“Bringing together businesses, consumers and communities is our best chance to protect destinations and ecosystems for future generations. “
