The publication warned that “the situation in the South China Sea is becoming increasingly tense”, stressing that China wishes “to strengthen the management of military friction.”
He added, “China does not want any conflict between the two armies in the South China Sea, but the Chinese military will respond strongly if there is a provocation. PLA exercises are prepared for worst case scenarios. ”
The United States and China have been in a heated dispute over the South China Sea as Washington criticized Beijing’s efforts to exert greater control over Hong Kong and the lack of action to control the coronavirus pandemic.
Beijing has already established military outposts on the Paracel Islands and the Spratly Islands – two disputed archipelagos that the United States says undermine the sovereign rights of US partners in the region.
