Piers Morgan and his wife Celia Walden robbed while on vacation in France

Piers Morgan and his wife Celia Walden were robbed while sleeping in their French villa, she said.

The incident happened early Thursday morning, shortly before the couple left the French Riviera in southern France and returned to the UK.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Walden recalled waking up at 6:15 am to prepare to leave the property.

The journalist, married to the Good Morning Britain presenter since 2010, said she discovered her handbag on the sofa and her empty jewelry box next to it.

Walden said she had a “feeling of violation in her stomach” at the actions of the “depraved and despicable, inhuman” thieves.

Among the stolen items were a number of sentimental pieces, including an art deco ring Morgan bought her on their fifth wedding anniversary.

Walden said, “I knew the second I walked into the living room that something was wrong.

“The previous night had been spent preparing our rented house for departure – but the place was a mess.

“My purse was upside down on the sofa, the box I keep my jewelry empty next to.

“The returned purse found in the living room was originally on a chair in our bedroom.

“They must have crept in and stood a few inches from us while we were sleeping.

Police said they believed the thieves left the villa after hearing Walden press the snooze button on his alarm.

Morgan, 55, has three sons with his ex-wife and a daughter with Walden.
