Police said the little girl, locally named Seema, was tortured to death and repeatedly hit on the head with a stone, Gulf News reported. The child had disappeared after going outside to play in the town of Nowshera, located in northern Pakistan.

When she did not return home, her worried family alerted authorities and announcements were made over loudspeakers at a nearby mosque. As the search operation began, local villagers identified a bag in a field and alerted the police.

The force then arrived at the scene and confirmed that the girl’s bloody and bruised body was inside.

The body was then taken to the Qazi Hussain Ahmed Medical Complex in Nowshere for examination.

After being transferred to Khyber University Hospital in Peshawar, a report from doctors confirmed that the body bore marks of torture.

No arrests have been reported at this point.
