Owner says ‘extremely powerful’ player will leave amid Arsenal and Everton speculation – HITC

Lille owner Gerard Lopez told BBC Sport Arsenal and Everton target Gabriel will leave in the summer transfer window.

Lopez praised the 22-year-old and said Lille had already told him he would leave this summer if the club received the right offers.

According to a report released by UOL this month, Arsenal and Everton are said to be interested in signing the Brazilian defender, with the Gunners and Toffees both making contact regarding a summer transfer window.

The Express claimed Lille valued the 22-year-old at £ 25million, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers among clubs interested in him.

Lopez told BBC Sport: “Gabriel is young, extremely powerful, currently probably one of the two most dominant center-backs in the French league.

“The way we work is very simple. We explain to him as well as his environment, his agent, what we are looking for, and once we have received these offers, the choice is his, as we did with Nico [Pepe] and Victor [Oshimen].

“We’re there now, so we said to him, ‘Finally you have to make a decision but we are not rushing you.’ I think it will arrive this week, or next week at the latest. He’s leaving, we’ve agreed to that.

“There is a lot of competition. He’s a young player, so he has to make sure he makes the right decision. We help him a bit so we say to him: “We think maybe this is the right manager or the right club for you. He is so talented that he will succeed wherever he goes.

Boost for Arsenal and Everton?

Lopez’s comments on Gabriel are a boost for Arsenal and Everton in their heralded quest to sign the young Brazilian.

Gabriel is a very talented young player who would make the Gunners or Toffees stronger and better at the back.

It is clear that Lille are ready to take advantage of the Brazilian, but the Ligue 1 club have to make the right offer.

Gabriel could be a star at Arsenal or Everton for years to come, and if £ 25million is what it takes to sign him, then the Gunners and Toffees should seriously consider paying him off.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old has scored one goal in 24 Ligue 1 appearances and played six times in the Champions League for Lille in 2019-20.
