Over 300 Canadian cases of salmonella linked to onions grown in the United States

Onions grown in the United States are at the heart of a salmonella outbreak in Canada.Some 339 cases of salmonella were confirmed across the country yesterday. They are linked to the contaminated red, white, yellow and sweet yellow onions of Thomson International Inc., based in California.

Currently, there are no cases in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Health Canada says if you don’t know where your onions were grown, don’t eat them. Onions grown in Canada are not affected by this advice.
