Coronavirus cases in children rose 21% between Aug.6 and Aug. 20, according to an updated joint report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association. More than 440,000 children have been infected in the United States since the start of the pandemic, according to the report.
The report also states that serious illnesses in children caused by the virus are rare despite the increase in numbers.
The first baby whose death has been linked to the virus was in Chicago in March. Previously, a death of a child under one year old had been reported in China.
