However, Solskjaer looks set to miss Sancho after Dortmund confirmed they are planning the new season with the England striker in their squad and have no plans to sell him to United.

The Norwegian believes the club in its current state are “far from close” to Liverpool and City despite an impressive end to the season.

“It’s a race. You can see the building of teams. We are always looking at the logistics of the team and the players, ”he said.

“It’s definitely a question of quality – and it’s going to cost money to have better players than the ones we already have.

“We still have some way to go to reach the level of the teams at the top of the Premier League. They are too far ahead of us.

“We’re still growing, we’re getting better of course, but we’re not the finished article. Far.’

“For me too, I’m looking forward to the semi-finals. We have already been in the semi twice this season.

“Of course we are happy to go as far as we have but we are not happy. We want to go further.

“You know when you get to the semi-finals you’re playing against great teams. Good quality teams. It’s time to step in for the big players, the big game moments.

“You have to be 100% focused because any little moment can be a game changer.
