Oklahoma Football Recruitment: DE Kelvin Gilliam, Four-Star, Signs Up for Sooners at CBS Sports Headquarters

Kelvin Gilliam, a 2021 four-star defensive end from Highland Springs, Va., Announced his intention to play for coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners live Saturday night on CBS Sports HQ. He made a verbal commitment to Oklahoma, which edged out Penn State and South Carolina for his services.

At 6-3, 250 pounds, Gilliam is considered the No.3 player in Virginia, No.7 on the weak side’s defense and No.104 overall in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Brain Dohn, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, compared Gilliam to current Miami Dolphins star Davon Godchaux. Dohn’s screening report on Gilliam says he has the potential to gain enough weight to play a versatile role at the following level:

Setting for playing on the defensive end or indoors in college. Easily carries 250 pounds. Long, athletic and fast. Can use outboard speed or the bull. Good with the hands. Able to press the block and redirect the line of scrimmage down. Bursted in the blink of an eye. Has a closing speed. Can manipulate the body to squeeze through the line of scrimmage. Possibility of chasing the game at the back. Patient and good at homework. Intelligent drive with a high motor. Must continue to strengthen the upper body. Work on technique for the various movement sets and combinations required. Multi-year rookie on the Top 15. NFL Day 3 draft potential.

Gilliam ended his 2019 season at Highland Springs as a zone-wide second-team selection, helping his side reach an 11-1 record and a Class 5 playoff appearance in the second round. He is the eighth member of the 2021 Oklahoma Class rated as a prospect of four stars or better.
