After the tragic deaths of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna last January, Nike made the decision to indefinitely halt sales of its premium signature product, including a large number of Kobe 5 Protro colorways. While fans have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to grab some of the legend’s most coveted sneakers, the brand has taken a patient approach moving forward with the release of the Kobe product, releasing only select models from team over the past seven months. Over the weekend, news broke that three different colorways of the Kobe 5 Protro are expected to release later this month – information which has now been confirmed by Nike.According to the brand, it will continue to release Kobe Protro sneakers, starting with a line of products in late August to coincide with “Mamba Week.” Foot Locker’s launch schedule suggests that the “Big Stage”, “Lakers” and “EYBL” Kobe 5 protros will be available during this time. Expect Bryant’s Lakers jersey to be reissued as well.

In addition to bringing the Kobe product back to the market, Nike announced it is donating $ 1 million to the Mamba Foundation and Mambacita Sports and will continue to amplify Kobe’s message through the Mamba League.

When Bryant’s already popular sneakers return, they will likely do so with greater retail success due to increased demand. In the aftermath of the January crash, Bryant shoes saw massive price hikes on second-hand dealer sites such as StockX. The RIF LA consignment store made the decision to remove the Kobe product from its shelves and reimburse customers out of respect for its heritage. These companies will have to make decisions regarding the treatment of people using their platform to profit from sales of Kobe products in the very near future.

As of now, the first rumored release is the ‘Big Stage Kobe 5 Protro (pictured above) on August 23. We’ll continue to keep you up to date on all things Nike Kobe here at Sole Collector.
