Newcastle United – Magpies confirm signing of Ireland international Jeff Hendrick

Newcastle United have signed Republic of Ireland international midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a four-year contract.

The Dubliner, 28, joins the Magpies after his contract with Burnley expired, where he made 139 appearances in four seasons in all competitions and helped the Clarets qualify for the Europa League in 2017/18.He joined Burnley for more than £ 10million in August 2016 after making over 200 appearances for his first club, Derby County.

Hendrick – who won 54 caps for his country and represented them at Euro 2016 – told NUFC TV: “It’s a huge club and playing over the years, going to the stadium is one. of the best stadiums to play in, so I want to play there.

“I have played more than 100 games in the Premier League but I want to continue and continue to improve with a different team. It’s going to be different for me, the demands with the bigger stadium, the crowd, the size of the club, so I have to take that and keep pushing myself and striving to improve.

“Can’t wait to be there – can’t wait. ”

Head Coach Steve Bruce added, “Jeff has been someone I have admired for a long time. I watched him when he was at Derby and then he went to Burnley for a lot of money and couldn’t afford it so I missed him. !

“He’s an experienced international footballer who can play in any midfield, so we welcome him on board. He will be a great asset to us, on and off the pitch.

“He’s a great pro, down to earth, and at 28 it’s a wonderful time to find someone. This is the peak of his career – he’s a really fit boy who has played 122 times in the Premier League for Burnley in the past four years, and I’m sure he will be a great addition to the squad. ”

Jeff Hendrick’s first interview as a Newcastle United player will soon be available for free on NUFC TV
