New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu leaves game with a sprained ankle


According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the x-rays of New York rookie Liberty Sabrina Ionescu’s left ankle came back negative and showed no fractures after sustaining a sprained ankle tonight against Atlanta’s dream.

Ionescu rolled her ankle in the second quarter as she pushed onto the field and her foot descended to the feet of Dream’s Betnijah Laney. She was helped off the field with the help of two team members and did not return to the game.

In his first two WNBA games, Ionescu impressed, averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists to start his professional career.

She was selected first overall by the Liberty in the 2020 WNBA Draft after a four-year career at the University of Oregon.
