John Horgan of British Columbia is Canada’s most popular prime minister, according to the latest Angus Reid Institute poll.
According to results shared on Monday, Horgan is leading the way with an approval rating of 69%, followed by Ontario Premier Doug Ford with 66% and Quebec Premier François Legault with 65%.
Much of its popularity is attributed to its response and that of the BC government and the handling of COVID-19 cases, according to the pollster.
“Despite a growing number of cases, which reached record levels last week, Horgan’s approval is the highest in the country at 69%, suggesting that low (but increasing) hospitalization rates may calm the public to some extent, ”notes a summary of the poll results.
With most of the province’s recent cases attributable to a younger population, Horgan also reached out to BC-born stars Ryan Reynolds and Seth Rogen to amplify the message from health officials to stay safe and practice the physical distancing. As a result, Reynolds and Rogen rallied around their signature humor to give their own comedic twist to Horgan’s appeal to young people.
