New cases of COVID-19 reported in Midwestern Ontario during civic vacation

Some municipalities in Midwestern Ontario reported new cases of COVID-19 over the August long weekend.

Huron Perth Public Health reported four new cases of the virus on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 72.

Five of the most recent cases are in Perth East, according to the health unit, and are linked to the same extended Low German communities. All cases in East Perth are self-isolated, and contract research is being carried out with the support of leaders from the local Low German speaking community.

The outbreak at Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton has been declared over. A follow-up investigation revealed no evidence of transmission, and the previous positive result in the asymptomatic health worker was considered to be a previous infection or a false positive.

Gray Bruce Public Health has not reported any new cases since last Friday. As of Monday, there were a total of five active cases in Bruce and Gray, but none were hospitalized. An epidemic condition remains at Trillium Court nursing home in Kincardine after an undetermined test result from a staff member. The house has no active cases, however, public health outbreak protocols require a facility to remain in an outbreak state for a full incubation period.
