Netflix certainly struck gold when they opted Avatar: The Last Airbender for streaming on their platform. Longtime fans and new followers alike quickly immersed themselves in the series, propelling it up the Netflix charts and ultimately helping the series break a Netflix record.
In a surprise jump to the top, Avatar: The Last Airbender surpassed Ozark as the oldest top 10 on the streaming platform. Previously, Ozark sat at the top of the list for 57 days – certainly nothing to laugh about.
However, on July 15, 2020, Avatar surpassed Ozark, accumulating 58 days on the top 10 list. It’s worth noting, as the show is just one of two non-Netflix-produced shows to end up on the list for an extended period, alongside Money Heist.
The other detail worth mentioning is that Avatar has managed to hold a top 10 position since day one of its Netflix release. Not a single day before day 58 went by that the show didn’t make it into the top 10.
Netflix weighs on Suyin’s parentage
Netflix surely noticed, as the streaming giant began to interact with Avatar fans on his Twitter page. In a particularly bold move, Netflix has decided to weigh in on one of the series’ most controversial topics.
In Avatar: The Legend of Korra, Toph has a daughter named Suyin. Suyin’s father is never revealed, but Netflix suggests that it was actually Sokka who teamed up with Toph.
Netflix tweeted: ” [I]That’s fine, we also secretly ship zukka and tokka for this account. For those who are not in the know, Zukka means Zuko and Sokka, and Tokka means Toph and Sokka.
They then added: ” [P]people who think suyin just came out of nowhere [clown emoji] (it is not confirmed but still). ”
There are several long-standing debates about relationships Avatar, generally focusing on who should have ended up with Katara and who Toph ended up with.
‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Fans Respond To Netflix Comment
As any fan of a show knows, fandoms are very serious about their character relationships. And Avatar: The Last Airbender fans are no different. It seems that a lot of fans are not into the idea of ”Tokka”.
Twitter users were quick to weigh in on Netflix’s statement regarding Sokka and Toph. One user wrote, in part, “Suyin obviously has a father but it’s not Sokka. As much as you wanted it to happen, it didn’t.
Another added: “Which … makes Sokka an impassive father who did not recognize or help raise his own child.” And also potentially a cheater if he was married to Suki. Why do you have to mess my man like that?
A Twitter user joked: “ [S]but this intern is about to get fired lmaooo.
