‘Neither Mane nor Salah’ – Chris Sutton warns Arsenal as Wolves and Newcastle soar

Chris Sutton has urged Arsenal to withdraw from any deal to send Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Wolves. The expert – and former Celtic forward – named the 23-year-old man of the match as the Gunners beat Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Since then, reports have emerged that Arsenal may rethink the youngster’s situation – after agreeing to a £ 20million fee with Wolves last week.

And Sutton says they are right to do so, encouraging Mikel Arteta to keep a player who was recently called up to the England squad.

In the Daily Mail, he said: “Maitland-Niles has been asked about his future with him being linked to Wolves, who have just let fullback Matt Doherty join Tottenham.

“His response – ‘I’m an Arsenal player until I’m told’ – didn’t sound like someone who should stay.

“Maybe he thinks he will be guaranteed a better playing time at Molineux. But it’s good to hear Arsenal consider a transfer U-turn after their performance against Liverpool.

“He’s such a versatile talent, a diamond, and I think Mikel Arteta trusts him.

“Neither Sadio Mane nor Mo Salah had any joy with him at the back of the left wing, and there is an argument that he would be a better right-back than Hector Bellerin.

“If I were an Arsenal decision maker, I wouldn’t be in a rush to get rid of Maitland-Niles.
