MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin faces backlash following a tweet suggesting that foreign interference in the fall election could only benefit President Trump.
National Counter-Intelligence and Security Center director William Evanina issued a statement on Friday warning that several countries could attempt to put their thumbs on the ladder in November.
“We believe that Russia is using a series of measures primarily to denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it considers an ‘anti-Russian establishment”, “wrote Evanina. “This is consistent with Moscow’s public criticism of him when he was vice president for his role in the Obama administration’s policy on Ukraine and his support for the anti-Putin opposition in Russia… Some actors related to the Kremlin are also seeking to strengthen the president. Trump’s candidacy on social media and Russian television. ”
However, according to Evanina, Russia is not the only bad actor who could try to influence the outcome of the elections.

“We believe that China prefers President Trump – whom Beijing considers unpredictable – not to win re-election,” the intelligence director said. “China has stepped up its efforts before November 2020 to shape the political environment in the United States, lobby politicians it sees as opposed to China’s interests, and deflect and counter criticism of China. ”
Evanina also states that Iran “seeks to undermine America’s democratic institutions, President Trump, and divide the country ahead of the 2020 election,” using online influence as “the spread of disinformation.”
Griffin, a senior producer of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” shared an Associated Press headline that only highlighted Russia’s apparent efforts to harm Biden, but failed to mention the will of China and Iran to undermine Trump.
“WASHINGTON (AP) – US intelligence services say Russia is using a series of measures to denigrate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden,” Griffin tweeted to his more than 800,000 Twitter followers.
Griffin, who has previously shared misleading tweets about Trump, has been accused of omitting crucial conclusions from Evanina’s statement in an attempt to rekindle the tale of collusion with Russia in the 2016 election.
“Were there other countries mentioned by the United States [sic] intelligence? Asked Frank Luntz sarcastically.

“Report says China and Iran are hoping Biden wins, but you won’t mention it because it goes against your narrative and your deep thirst for resistance clicks,” the editor said. from NewsBusters, Curtis Houck, to Griffin.
“What’s interesting is that China and Iran are hoping Trump loses,” wrote Erielle Davidson, senior policy analyst at the Jewish Institute for National Security in America. “Kyle conveniently left that aside, despite the fact that China and Iran pose a much greater threat to the United States. [sic] the national security that Russia alone and its paralyzed economy “,
Griffin was criticized in June for publishing only a small excerpt from President Trump’s comments on the strangulation.
In an interview with Harris Faulkner, the host of Outnumbered: Overtime, Trump was asked to comment on some police reform measures following the death of George Floyd.

“I don’t like chokes,” Trump began. “And I’ll say this… sometimes when you’re alone and you’re fighting someone, it’s hard.” And you grab somebody in a choke, what are you gonna do, say ‘oh’, and he’s a really bad person and you know that and they exist. … If you have two people or in the case, we’re talking about four people… it’s a very, very delicate situation. ”
He then continued, “I think the concept of strangulation sounds so innocent, so perfect, and then you realize – if it’s a face to face – now if it’s a two on one, it’s kinda. different story depending on the hardness or the force… but if a policeman is in a violent fight and he has someone on a choke – ”

“Well, if it’s an individual fight for life, that’s what you’re saying,” Faulkner clarified.
“Yeah,” Trump replied. “So you have to be careful. That being said, it would be, I think, a very good thing that, generally speaking, it should be finished. ”
