Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Although Jon Jones has spoken of a heavyweight move several times over the past decade or so, this time around it appears to be real. “Bones” officially canceled the light heavyweight title, paving the way for himself to challenge the big men, while also creating an opportunity for Dominick Reyes to fight Jan Blachowicz for the 205-pound belt.
Reyes, however, is still somewhat obsessed with Jones. “The Dominator” thinks he deserved a nod to Jones in their competitive UFC 247 fight, and he accused Jones of running away from the rematch. Jones once asked Reyes to get back to reality, but Reyes continues to speak on Instagram.
In a comment responding to Reyes, Jones wrote: “You won your chance to fight for the championship and you failed. I know I pop your cherry like it should [have] been really depressing, but it’s time for you to move on now.
“Instead of trying to run a ridiculous campaign that I’m throwing at you, you should actually thank me. Think about it, an incredible opportunity has been seized starting in January. You should just be grateful and keep your mouth shut.
Somehow, I don’t expect Reyes to follow Jones’s advice, at least not while hopes for a possible rematch are still alive. For now, however, Reyes would probably be well advised to focus on Jan Blachowicz’s ‘Polish power’ for fear of getting fisted in their title fight.
Rafael dos Anjos is the man. Few have experienced such an elite caliber in two distinct weight classes!
Heavyweight against (former) flyweight! An old clip but still so fun.
Ion Cutelaba and Magomed Ankalaev have been re-booked… again!
Derrick Lewis hilariously finds himself on the wrong side of one of his funny videos. “The Black Beast” is a treasure!
Frankie Edgar wasn’t an easy opponent for his bantamweight debut, but the victory would place him among a small number of successful weight class travelers.
Judo is so awesome but so confusing.
Briefs, rips and knockout clips
Gift wrapping is such a dominant position. If you ever find yourself the person downstairs with their arm wrapped, it’s time to panic completely.
A good shot is better than a lot of mediocre ones.
Martin Nguyen, the lightweight kingpin of a championship, has a penchant for highlight reel finishes.
Reviews say the gas in question is sulfur hexafluoride and not CO2, but a cool thing nonetheless.
Midnight Music: I tried to create a playlist of country songs that I love (I’m picky about this genre), so here’s an obvious one that makes the cut.
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts craze is still going on.
