Mrs. Obama and her husband Barack Obama, the first black president of the United States, made Washington their home after leaving the White House in January 2017.
She said it was “exhausting” to “wake up to another story of a black man or a black person somehow dehumanized, hurt, killed or falsely accused of something.”
“And that led to a weight that I haven’t felt in my life for a while,” she said.
Mrs. Obama said it was important to remember that “we have been through difficult times in this country” before.
