“That was my limit today,” Scherzer said. “I was not going to exceed that limit. It was not going to relax when throwing. “Scherzer said his hamstrings started to kick in on his previous start last Wednesday against the Blue Jays but felt good enough to get through it.Scherzer wasn’t as sharp as usual early Wednesday, scoring 2-0 against each of New York’s top two hitters, marching one and giving up a single to the other. He said his mechanics were down as he tried to compensate for his hamstring pain.
After the set, Scherzer said he spoke with wide receiver Kurt Suzuki about the injury and whether he should keep throwing.
« [Suzuki] seen how my stuff was playing, ”Scherzer said. He didn’t like it. ”
The Mets ultimately went ahead in the first on Dominic Smith’s sacrificial volley.
Scherzer entered the game with a 0-1 record and 2.84 ERA this season.
