Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is in line for his squad debut in the Red Devils’ Europa League clash against LASK on Wednesday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have an overall 5-0 lead ahead of the second leg at the Theater of Dreams and the Norwegian is expected to make a host of changes to give first-team stars like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes more rest and Anthony. Martial.

The new Europa League format means United are three games away from the final and the competition will be decided in less than a fortnight, meaning Solskjaer will likely have to rotate to get their hands on a first piece of silverware this quarter.

Mengi was promoted to United’s first-team lineup after the lockdown due to a center-back shortage. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are both injured in the medium term meaning Solskjaer was only left with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Mengi, 18, showed immense promise in United’s academy and although he was called up to the squad to face Astana earlier in the competition, he was an unused substitute in Kazakhstan.

The teenager is unlikely to be the only fresh face as James Garner, Tahith Chong and Ethan Laird have all trained with the first team and the trio could play a role as United look to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

United will face either Copenhagen or Istanbul Başakşehir in the last 8 games, before a potential draw against Premier League rivals Wolves in the semi-finals, who must defeat Olympiacos and one of Roma and Sevilla to qualify for the last four.
