Manchester United delay negotiations for Ousmane Dembele
According to the transfer window podcast (h / t MEN), Manchester United have yet to start negotiations with La Liga giants Barcelona over the transfer of Ousmane Dembele.
The Frenchman has been at Barcelona for three years, having arrived as a long-term replacement for Neymar. However, he flattered himself to cheat during his time at Camp Nou, constant injuries hampering his growth.
Dembele has spent more time on the treatment tables than on the Barcelona pitch. In fact, the 23-year-old only appeared in nine games last season, scoring a lone goal in the process. (h / t Transfermarkt)
Despite this, Manchester United are interested in Dembele as a potential alternative to Jadon Sancho, the main transfer target. The Red Devils are considering a loan for the 23-year-old World Cup winner. (m / t MEN)
However, there are now claims that the club are delaying talks with Barcelona as they remain confident in bringing Sancho in from Borussia Dortmund. (m / t MEN)
A deal for Sancho has run into trouble with Dortmund’s request for a transfer fee of £ 108million, while the club are also concerned about 20-year salary expectations if a deal were to be reached. (m / t MEN)
Nonetheless, confidence within the camp is high about reaching a deal.

Whatever our stance on the Sancho deal, signing Dembele wouldn’t be the smartest idea. The 23-year-old is an unreliable character at Barcelona due to his injury history.
Even in form, the Frenchman barely ignited the scene. So, if Sancho’s chase fails, we have to look past the Barcelona striker.
