Man City say trio ‘banned’ as they offer defensive duo in Lionel Messi transfer

Man City are preparing an offer to bring Lionel Messi to the Etihad but have told Barcelona three of their players are ‘banned’.Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus will not be offered as part of any deal, despite reports suggesting both players could be used as weights in a transfer.

Riyad Mahrez also remains at the club as City have no plans to lose the Algerian winger.

However, according to The Sun, defender Eric Garcia is available while full-back Angelino is also surplus.

Barcelona are keen to sign Garcia, 19, who have already informed City that they will not extend their contract which expires next year.

Eric Garcia could be included in City’s offer for Lionel Messi

Meanwhile, Angelino has returned from a loan at Red Bull Leipzig which does not have the funds to sign him permanently this summer.

The 23-year-old has burned his bridges at City after admitting earlier this year that he would rather stay with the German club in a thinly veiled blow to Pep Guardiola.

It’s unclear whether Barcelona want to sign Angelino or not, but they are looking for a long-term replacement for current left-back Jordi Alba.

Angelino can also be used as a crafting weight in any transaction

Any deal for Messi would naturally also involve a large sum of money if City were to land the striker this summer.

The Barcelona captain is still hoping to fabricate his exit on a free transfer, but the clause in his contract expired in June and the club are unlikely to waive that when they can demand fees for his services.

Messi’s release clause stands at £ 630million, but Barca would no doubt be open to lower offers given he could lose the 33-year-old for nothing in 2021.
