Mail sorting halted at Canada Post’s Edmonton facility after positive COVID case

EDMONTON – An employee at the Canada Post processing plant on 149 Street has tested positive for COVID-19. A spokesperson for Canada Post said the employee had been exposed to the virus outside of the workplace and had not worked since Aug. 16, when he was feeling well and showing no symptoms.

Staff at the facility were notified of the positive test on Friday afternoon, and mail processing was halted so everyone could be sent home for the rest of the day.

Canada Post is currently performing a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the facilities.

Officials said they have been in contact with Alberta health services and are closely following their recommendations.

An emergency plan is in place to compensate for the stoppage of mail sorting.
