Low water levels could hamper production of French nuclear reactors at Chooz -RTE

PARIS, Aug. 10 (Reuters) – Production could be reduced on Saturday at EDF Chooz nuclear reactors in northern France due to high temperatures lowering the water level on the Meuse, the Meuse announced on Monday. French operator of the RTE network. The two reactors each produce 1.45 gigawatts (GW) of power. The shortfall could be equal to the output of one unit, RTE said.

According to the weather forecast from Météo France, the heatwave is expected to peak at 37 degrees Celsius in the region on Wednesday, with temperatures dropping throughout the week.

Consumption in France is expected to reach 44.7 GW on Saturday, according to RTE data.

French nuclear availability is currently 60.6% of total capacity, with 24.6 GW offline. (Reporting by Forrest Crellin and Bate Felix; Editing by Cynthia Osterman)
