Messi receives A-League offer
Australian club Adelaide United have made a tongue-in-cheek offer to sign Lionel Messi by offering the Barcelona captain something ‘different’.
Club manager Ian Smith – all too aware that they couldn’t afford such a superstar – instead tried to be creative with his attempts to lure Messi.
In an open letter (via FTBL), Smith wrote: “While Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and others may be looking for your signing, wouldn’t you really like to go elsewhere?
“Indeed, as a consumer of Penfolds Grange, one of the finest wines in the world, we will find you a home in the suburb of Magill – it’s just a candid shot from the award-winning Magill Estate restaurant in Penfolds, where you will have a regular table at your disposal.
“We can’t offer you much in the form of financial compensation,” Smith said, explaining that the pandemic had severely damaged his team’s finances.
“But, hey, let’s not let that get in the way of something that promises to be extra special; once you are here you will be so happy and the money will just seem incidental to you.
