Levitt is currently Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.
He defeated Tory Mark Adler in 2015 when the Trudeau Liberals launched a wave of support for a majority government and were re-elected in 2019.
Levitt said he informed the Speaker of the House that his last day would be September 1.
His resignation will trigger a by-election which will be the first to take place since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today I informed the Speaker that September 1 will be my last day as Member of Parliament for York Center.
