Whites are doing everything they can to make the transfer happen, but have come up against a tough Brighton determined to keep a hold on their man.
Reports suggest Leeds have had a third bid of £ 25million plus add-ons rejected by seagulls in recent days, with the asking price north of £ 50million.
Leeds are not alone in showing interest in the center-back, with each of the Premier League’s top six clubs saying they have asked Brighton about his availability.
Another Brighton player who has been linked with a departure from the Amex this summer is club captain Lewis Dunk.
Chelsea have reportedly been interested in taking the 28-year-old to Stamford Bridge, any move for Dunk would have seen the Whites’ deal become more difficult for Leeds to do.
However, as indicated by the Daily mail , Brighton convinced Dunk to stay on for the long haul, with the defender writing down a new five-year deal with the club.
The contract makes him the club’s highest paid player and crucially guarantees the defender will not budge this summer.
This means Brighton’s position could now soften on White, giving Leeds a chance to make another move for the 22-year-old.
Dunk’s presence in Brighton’s squad will also mean a reduction in playing time for the center-back, which could lead him to push for a transfer to a club where he is guaranteed to start. And that’s something Leeds could offer.
