The complaint describes a chaotic scene taking place around 11:45 p.m., beginning shortly after a witness, Daily Caller reporter Richard McGinnis, interviewed Rittenhouse. The complaint claims video from the cell phone showed Rosenbaum, who appeared unarmed, trailing behind Rittenhouse before throwing a plastic bag at him. As the couple approached a car, a loud bang is heard, followed by an unidentified man shouting obscenity. As Rosenbaum approaches Rittenhouse, four more bangs are heard.
McGinnis told investigators that at the time of the shooting, Rosenbaum was trying to take the gun from Rittenhouse, according to the complaint.
Rosenbaum was hit and fell to the ground. McGinnis began administering first aid, according to the complaint, adding that McGinnis was in the crosshairs when the shooting occurred. Rittenhouse is accused of endangering him.
Rittenhouse then started to flee, running down the street as witnesses shouted “Catch him!” Catch this guy! “Hey, he shot him!” And “Beat him!” Detectives said when Rittenhouse ran away he could be heard speaking on his cell phone saying, “I just killed someone.”
At one point, an unidentified man appears to be attempting to punch Rittenhouse, according to the complaint, knocking his hat off but not appearing to make contact otherwise.
Then, in a video widely circulated across the country, the suspect can be seen falling. The complaint indicates that Huber used this moment to attempt to disarm Rittenhouse.
The skateboarder approached with his board in one hand, and with the other, he appeared to “try to take the gun out of the accused,” according to the complaint.
Rittenhouse rolled onto his left side and, as Huber attempted to grab the gun, it was pointed at his body, according to the complaint.
“The accused then fires a shot which can be heard on the video. Huber staggers, takes several steps, then collapses to the ground. Huber subsequently died of the gunshot wound, ”the complaint states.
Grosskreutz, who approached as Huber entered and froze when the victim was shot, raised his hands. The complaint says Grosskreutz, who appeared to have a handgun, walked over to Rittenhouse, who shot him once in the right arm. Grosskreutz then turned and ran screaming for a doctor.
In videos of the incident, the suspect can then be seen, still armed, walking towards the reacted police vehicles, sometimes with their hands up. The police walk past him, then he approaches a police car before walking away.
Rittenhouse was arrested Wednesday in Antioch, Illinois.
Rittenhouse did not appear in a brief video hearing in Lake County, Ill., District Court on Friday, where a judge granted Rittenhouse’s public defender a 30-day extension. Rittenhouse is looking to hire a private attorney and has spoken on the phone with his mother, the judge said. The next hearing is scheduled for September 25.
Rittenhouse’s attorney denounced the charges. “This young boy hasn’t just been attacked in the streets of Kenosha, he’s been attacked in media and social networks around the world,” L. Lin Wood told CBS News. ” It’s wrong. He’s a 17-year-old boy. He wasn’t there to create problems but he found himself with his life threatened and he had the right to protect himself in self defense and now he finds himself charged with murder. “
