I’m not gonna lie, nobody knows what’s up with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) on Grey’s Anatomy. Throughout Season 16, fans became frustrated with the character due to his insane behavior with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Tom Koracick (Greg Germann). Then when Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), Teddy’s arc came to rest on a cliffhanger. So now viewers are wondering what could happen next. But recently, Raver shared his hopes for the Teddy script when Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 17.

At the beginning of Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, fans thought Teddy and Owen could be happy forever. Teddy gave birth to their daughter, Allison, who is named after her ex-girlfriend. But when Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) wondered if her baby belonged to Owen and not to Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack), Teddy found comfort in her ex-boyfriend, Tom.

In the middle of the season, Teddy and Tom started their affair. Then in the finale, Teddy and Owen decided to organize their wedding. Although the cardio surgeon continues to cheat on her fiancé. She also slept with Tom on her wedding day, accidentally leaving a steamy voicemail message for Owen. So now he knows about the matter.

Before Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 finale, Raver spoke to Entertainment Tonight. The actor opened up about Teddy’s past relationships on the Shondaland series and pointed out why his character consistently lashes out at people who aren’t available.

“I think you are able to love two people in very different ways. And I think that’s what Teddy is struggling with, ”Raver said in March 2020.“ I think it has to do with Teddy’s lack of love as well. The whole time on Grey’s, she’s been really… with unavailable people. And I think that’s something she really needs to look into.

Then, in an interview with TV Insider published in July 2020, Raver indicated that Teddy’s behavior in his previous relationships stemmed “from his loss and trauma.” It is also probable Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 will explore this story.

“Teddy has to do a lot of work on herself,” Raver said. “Things imploded with the final and Owen found out. It will be interesting to see the consequences of [that]. But I think Teddy had a lot of trauma. Now we will explore what [is]. »

She added, “Her goal is to fix things and do things for people. Everything comes from a good place. But it certainly stems from her need to get the job done, as her behavior definitely reflects some issues she needs to grapple with.

Whatever happens to Teddy to move on, there’s plenty to dig when Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 returns on ABC. And while Raver acknowledges that his character faces his own issues, fans still don’t know what will happen to his relationship with Owen after the Season 16 finale.

“I honestly think Owen is having too much trouble talking to Teddy at this point,” showrunner Krista Vernoff told The Hollywood Reporter in April 2020. “This is a major storyline for us to play in Season 17: are they finished? Is there a way for him to get over this?

She continued, “Owen was wrong and was forgiven. So it would be hypocritical not to let the possibility that there is forgiveness here. Yet what he heard was truly overwhelming.

Then, speaking with TVLine, Vernoff hinted that the love triangle with Teddy, Owen, and Tom will continue into season 17.

“All three of them feel like whole, rich, conflicted human beings,” Vernoff said. “My empathy and sympathy changes from week to week and from scene to scene. I think it’s a very nice story. And I don’t know where it ends.
