It has been printed on the back of a short thank you note from Kate Middleton, 38, and Prince William, 38, which reads: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appreciated your kind thought by writing to Prince Louis as you did on his second birthday.

“This was greatly appreciated by Their Royal Highnesses who send you their best wishes.

Photo shows Louis, wearing a £ 12 blue checkered shirt from Sainsbury’s, beaming at the camera as he stands against a wall at Anmer Hall, the Norfolk home of the Cambridges.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their children George, seven, Charlotte, five and Louis last week on a trip to the Isles of Scilly.

The family were seen “enjoying the good weather” and stopping to greet fellow vacationers as they passed through Tresco last Thursday.

William is no stranger to the beauty spot, having visited the same island with his brother Harry and parents Charles and Diana as a child in June 1989.

He also toured the island with Kate in 2016, with footage showing the couple boarding a boat for St Martins after visiting the Tresco Abbey garden.
