Jurgen Klopp and FSG major change to Liverpool highlighted by Jadon Sancho and Robert Lewandowski

The comments and speculation surrounding two of the best players in the world will not go unnoticed by Liverpool fans this week. Firstly, it has been reported that Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who appears to be on the verge of a move to Manchester United, would have preferred to move to Anfield.

Next come comments from Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who spoke lyrically about Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, with whom he worked in Dortmund.

Since FSG arrived at Anfield, Liverpool’s reputation has improved on and off the pitch, with vast improvements being made across the board.

Perhaps their biggest coup was bringing in Klopp as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement in October 2015. Less than five years later, the transformation is complete.

As Matt Addision put it in the Morning Bulletin podcast, “As the [recent Channel Four] documentary [on Klopp and Liverpool] and so many other things, this is another example of how valuable Klopp is by his former players, as well as some of the best players in the world.

“Probably five or six years ago, Liverpool fans would absolutely love [Lewandowski’s comments] because it would be an alien thing for a world class player of his rank to speak of Liverpool with such a smile on his face.

“He’s happy to talk about Jurgen Klopp, but it’s almost a normal story now – it’s something we’ve gotten used to. Klopp is one of the best, if not the best manager in the world.

“Jadon Sancho would have liked to join Liverpool before Manchester United and that further underscores the progress Liverpool have made.

“If Liverpool had hypothetically wanted to buy Lewandowski I’m sure that’s something he would probably look into, because Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world and Klopp is one of the best coaches in the world.

“When you hear comments like this it puts things in perspective – it’s easy to forget how much beloved Liverpool are. ”

Even though reports that Sancho prefers Anfield over Old Trafford are far from relevant – although there is a lot of sense behind the suggestion that he would like to join the current world champions rather than a side in the middle of heavy rebuilding – that being the only possibility underscores the progress Liverpool have made in recent times.

Not so long ago that would have been unthinkable, as Memphis Depay, who chose Manchester over Merseyside, proved.

Liverpool and Manchester United have now traded places in the pecking order, and comments like Lewandowski’s are unlikely to be the last.
