Johnson will be ‘ruthless’ on adding France to UK quarantine list

Boris Johnson said ministers would be “absolutely ruthless” in deciding whether travelers from France should quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in the UK.The prime minister said officials would review the latest data later Thursday amid growing concern over the growing number of cases in the country.

The prospect that France could be removed from the list of countries exempt from quarantine requirements will worry thousands of British holidaymakers currently in the country.

It will also be a blow to the French tourism industry, which is heavily dependent on visitors from the UK.

Mr Johnson, however, insisted that it was essential to prevent more infections from entering Britain from abroad.

“We have to be absolutely ruthless about this, even to our closest and dearest friends and partners.

“I think everyone understands that,” he told reporters on a visit to Northern Ireland.

“We’ll look at the data a little later this afternoon, looking at exactly where France and other countries are doing.

“We cannot be content from a distance with our own situation.

“Everyone understands that in the event of a pandemic, you do not allow our population to be re-infected or the disease to reappear.

“This is why the quarantine measures are very important and we have to apply them very strictly.”
