A Boeing 757 Jet2 circled over Greater Manchester after witnesses reported hearing a “loud bang” shortly after take off from Manchester Airport.Flight trackers online show the plane circling over Greater Manchester this afternoon.

The plane in question would have made a test flight, reports Manchester Evening News.

A witness said: “He was in the garden (live in front of the runway), he heard it take off then a loud bang above, looked up and the engine was flames coming from him!”

Another tweeted: Really loud noise in the Manchester Airport area around 3pm. The house was vibrating! Hope all was well. ”

Another person said they heard an engine “blow up and catch fire”.

While some witnesses speculate that the plane suffered a bird strike.

One of them tweeted: ‘A big noisy bird shot on a plane taking off from Manchester Airport about 15 minutes ago. I scared life. I’m not sure the plane continued or turned around. ”

A Jet2 spokesperson said: ‘One of our planes on a routine test flight followed the procedure and returned to Manchester Airport this afternoon, after the crew reported a minor fault .

“The aircraft has landed safely and will be thoroughly checked, in accordance with standard practice.”
