Its dark materials The first season might not have caused a stir in the United States, but it was huge for the BBC, and that vastness is all over the footage from the show’s second season, with hot air balloon chases, sci-fi backdrops and even a spooky dust monster.
The second season – which launched in pre-production ahead of first airing in November 2019 – will address the second book in Phillip Pullman’s best-selling trilogy, The subtle knife. In the book, Lyra (played by Logan‘s Daphne Keen) ventures into her first world beyond her own and meets another dimensional traveler, young Will Parry (Amir Wilson), who becomes her companion for the remainder of the series. As Lyra’s fate is interwoven with the Golden Compass, Will’s fate is to possess the Subtle Knife, a blade so sharp that it can carve gates between worlds.
Meanwhile, it looks like the TV adaptation will fill the season with plenty between the adult characters from the His Dark Materials books, as they prepare for an inter-dimensional war on… check the notes… God. Returning characters will include Ms. Coulter (Ruth Wilson), Lord Boreal (Ariyon Bakare) and Lee Scoresby (HamiltonLin-Manuel Miranda), as well as new characters John Parry (Andrew Scott), Ruta Skadi (Jade Anouka) and Dr. Mary Malone (Simone Kirby).
Its dark materials Season 2 will air on HBO and HBOMax in November.
