Indiana student tests positive for Covid-19 on first day of school

The Hancock County Health Department informed Greenfield-Central High School Thursday afternoon that one of their students, who had attended part of the school day, had tested positive for Covid-19, the Superintendent Harold Olin in a letter.Olin said the school adopted its “Positive COVID-19 Testing Protocol” once school officials learned of the positive result.

School officials immediately isolated the student in the school clinic, and examined the student’s schedule, including transportation and extracurricular activities, to determine who had come into close contact.

As part of the district’s return to in-person learning, “all areas of all schools” are already professionally sanitized each evening, according to Olin’s letter. But the principal noted that special attention would be paid to areas and classrooms visited by the infected student.

“We understand that this information will cause concern for some of you. It was very evident today that almost all of our families and students were prepared to properly follow the safety protocols that we established, ”Olin said. “Adherence to these protocols is essential to maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff. “
