In the field with NYC contact tracers

NEW YORK CITY – New York City’s 3,000 contact tracers are working to curb the spread of the coronavirus in what appears to be the largest such effort in any US city.New York says it is now meeting its goal of reaching about 90% of all newly diagnosed people and interviewing 75%.

Yet thousands of those infected have not given the city the names of others they may have exposed.

Only 6 out of 10 contacts who are cited carry out full interviews, below the city’s target.

It’s difficult to compare the contact tracing programs of states and cities in the United States because they vary widely in what they broadcast, but some experts believe the numbers reported by New York are promising.

Still, some suggest the city should deepen and disclose the effects of the program more.
