Hurtigruten cancels Svalbard cruise as crew members diagnosed with Covid-19

Hurtigruten confirms that the tests were positive. The 160 crew members on board will now be tested.

The crew is still on board, while the passengers have disembarked. Local newspaper Nordlys could say on Friday evening that four crew members tested positive. All four are hospitalized in Tromsø. Passengers who disembarked in Tromsø tell Norwegian media that they were first told about the outbreak when reading newspapers online. All passengers must be quarantined and tested for Covid-19.

«MS Roald AmundsenArrived in Tromsø after a trip to Svalbard which began on July 24 with 177 passengers. The ship is one of the few to have sailed the waters around the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard this summer.

Several dozen other high-end expedition cruises believed to sail in the Arctic were canceled earlier this year after the global coronavirus outbreak.

Hurtigruten says in the press release that it will contact all passengers who have been on board the last crossings, with departures July 17 and 24, and inform them of the outbreak and provide them with advice on what to do next.

The trip with the ship, supposed to sail from Tromsø to Svalbard on Friday afternoon, is logically canceled.
