Hugh Bonneville sent fans into a frenzy as he continued to show off his incredible weight loss while commemorating VJ Day’s 75th anniversary.

The Downton Abbey star, 56, first made his debut last week in a TV interview.

But it left fans equally stunned on Saturday on a BBC broadcast for the celebrations that marked three quarters of a century since the official end of World War II.

Hugh went to the balcony in a black suit and straight green tie as he read King George VI’s speech to mark the occasion.

And it didn’t take long for social media to be inundated with praise for her new look.

One of them commented: “Hugh Bonneville is wonderful for VJ Day. “

Another wrote: “Jesus Hugh Bonneville lost a load of weight # VJDay75. “

And a third added, “Wow, look at Hugh Bonneville. Watch VJDay 75, homage to the nations. We will remember them. ‘

VJ Day marks three quarters of a century since the official end of World War II which ended when Japan surrendered.

The memorial event included a series of star appearances by famous actors representing key figures from World War II such as Paterson Joseph et Martin Shaw.

Last week Hugh left fans in awe when he debuted his phenomenal image overhaul while speaking to Alex Jones and Gethin Jones on The One Show over Zoom.

The actor then showed off his epic transformation once again in the blink of an eye shared on Twitter as he met his best friend from college for a drink.

Hugh, who was holding a glass and beaming at the camera, uploaded the snapshot alongside a caption that read: “35 years ago we just left college. These days we hit each other’s elbows. #Best friends’.

He is best known for his role in Downton Abbey as Robert Crawley – a role he reprized in the Downton Abbey movie released last year.

This role earned him two Emmy nominations and, along with other cast members, won three SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in Drama.

Late last year, rumors circulated that there could be a second Downton Abbey movie – an idea Hugh told the Mirror he was open to.

He said: “When we started filming I thought it would be a good point, but there’s such an appetite for it, I can see it continue. I will never say never!

Hugh added that stepping out on the set was not that different from doing the beloved British TV show, as it just felt like ‘a bigger table’.

And coming back to the characters in a feature film, he said, “We were all here eight years later. As we looked around the room there were smiles of “Can you believe we’re here again!” ‘
