Jeffries’ remarks on Wednesday come as Bass’s place on Biden’s shortlist has reportedly increased. The Los Angeles congresswoman, however, has faced fresh scrutiny in recent days, with Republicans attacking her past comments about late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and the Church of Scientology.
Demings, a former Orlando police chief, became a running mate for Biden earlier this summer. But she, too, has come under fire for her law enforcement record amid a nationwide account of racial injustices in the police.

Dr Jill Biden, the wife of the former vice president, told Fox News on Tuesday that her husband was about to make a final decision. “We are close. He’s near, ”she said.
Biden is expected to announce his running mate earlier this month ahead of the Democratic National Convention, which will be held in Milwaukee from August 17-20.
