A phrase now removed from a Google France blog post suggests that the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G will be available for pre-order on October 8. Both phones were announced this week alongside the Pixel 4A (which is available for pre-order now), but Google has yet to release official pre-order dates for the handsets, saying only that they will be “coming this fall.”
Accidental leakage was reported by 9to5Google, after a reader spotted the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G pre-order date mentioned in Google France’s official Pixel 4A announcement. This mention has since been removed from the post (although it can be seen in the cached page), along with Google’s offering 9to5Google no further comment on the matter.
It’s a fleeting leak and could well be some sort of mistake, but an October 8 pre-order makes sense. Google regularly announces new hardware in October, giving us the Pixel 4 on October 15, 2019, the Pixel 3 on October 9, 2018, and the Pixel 2 on October 4, 2017. There’s no reason to think the company will simply change. this model because delays on the Pixel 4A led it to announce the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G early. And to top it off, an independent set of documents disclosed by Google as well spotted by 9to5Google notes that the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G are expected to launch in October.
In other words: if the mid-range Pixel 4A isn’t enough for you, you only have a few months to wait to learn more about the higher-performing Pixel 5 and the 5G-capable 4A.
