Gini Wijnaldum is convinced that Liverpool can get their Premier League title defense off to a positive start despite the club having had three ‘difficult’ opening matches against Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Reds stormed the league trophy for the first time in 30 years last season, ending the campaign with a whopping 99 points.

But the chasing pack will be desperate to knock Jurgen Klopp’s men off their perch, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all looking to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool will face FA Cup holders Arsenal for this year’s Community Shield on August 29 before starting the top-level season against newly promoted Leeds at Anfield.

The Champions then travel to Stamford Bridge for a tantalizing clash with Chelsea before returning to Merseyside to face the Gunners again.

“We play first at Leeds at home, then at Chelsea away and Arsenal at home, such difficult matches! ‘Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum told the club’s official website after the fixture list was announced.

“But we’ll just have to get good results.

“My first season when I arrived here was also a difficult start with three away games because the stadium was not ready so it’s quite similar.

“We’ll just have to see what it’s going to look like with the fans and stuff, but in the Premier League all kinds of games are really tough, especially at the start because everyone is fresh.

“We just have to train well and try to play the games as well as possible and prepare for the season. “

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian said the team were glued to their phone during their pre-season training camp in Salzburg, Austria to find out what the lineup for the new season looked like .

“It was during the pre-activation that we got the news,” said the Spaniard.

“So everyone was getting ready for practice, but checking their phones to see! It was a good feeling.

“It’s as if everything is getting closer and closer.

“We now know all the matches from start to finish, all the tough times and Christmas time as well. Between the two, we are going to have different competitions, the cups and the Champions League.

“It will be a great season, but difficult. Last season was wonderful and historic, but now we’re going to be in the present and we face a big challenge ahead of us.

Commenting on Liverpool’s tough start to the campaign, Adrian added: “It doesn’t matter who the team is because it’s going to be a tough season, of course.

The first rival is Leeds at home and we have to be ready for that mentally and physically, but even before because we will be playing the Community Shield against Arsenal.

“We are more than ready to take on the big challenge of the coming season.

“You have to play against everyone and we obviously have a quick and difficult start, but we have to be ready even earlier – August 29 against Arsenal.

“It’s the first trophy, the first important game of the season for us, so we’ll be ready for sure. ”
