Frenchman Macron expressed human rights concerns to Wang Yi of China


PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron expressed serious concerns about the situation in Hong Kong and the human rights of China’s Uyghur Muslim minority during a meeting on Friday with senior Chinese government diplomat State Councilor Wang Yi , his office said.

After months of protests, a new security law was introduced in Hong Kong that drew fierce criticism in the West for endangering the basic rights and freedoms that the Special Administrative Region had promised when it returned to the country. Chinese domination in 1997.

The United Nations estimates that more than a million Uyghur Muslims have been detained in camps in the Xinjiang region. China denies the mistreatment and says the camps provide vocational training and are necessary to counter extremism.
