PARIS – France on Sunday reported 4,897 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the highest daily level since a two-month lockdown ended in May.
Health Minister Olivier Veran earlier warned the situation was risky and said infections mostly occur among 20- to 40-year-olds at parties.
Cases among the elderly were also starting to increase, Veran said, but he ruled out another full lockdown in France.
However, figures from the Health Ministry on Sunday showed that the number of people hospitalized had fallen slightly by two to 4,709 from the previous day. Three more people were registered in intensive care, bringing the total to 383.
