France opens its doors to Indian students

NEW DELHI: France has opened its doors to Indian students. Emmanuel Lenain, the French Ambassador to India, tweeted Thursday: “Finally, the wait is over! Glad to announce that our visa department is now open to receive short stay and long stay student visa applications. Talent passport, professors or researchers, “Assistant de Français” – visa applicants belonging to these categories are also invited to apply.

The United States has also resumed processing student visas in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata from August 17, with the fall semester set to begin from next month. “According to the latest Open Door Report, Indian students make up almost 18% of all international students in the United States. In fact, the number of Indian students in the United States increased 2.9% from 2018 to 2019, ”EducationUSA India tweeted.

India has air bubbles with the United States and France, allowing people eligible under government standards to travel between the two countries.
VFS centers in 7 cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi – began receiving French visa applications from August 17. The French Embassy website lists the categories of Indian travelers who can apply for visas. Traveling in these times of a pandemic means that each country has its own requirements.
The website of the French Embassy states: “As of August 1, 2020, once on French territory, Indian passengers must submit a Covid-19 PCR test carried out less than 72 hours before departure (since India), or take this test on arrival in France and remain available thereafter to be contacted by phone in the event of a positive test. Children under 11 are exempt from this requirement. According to French law, wearing a mask is compulsory in all closed public spaces, including airports and public transport.
The U.S. Embassy will, however, continue to remain closed for routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa services. The US Embassy in Delhi tweeted last Friday: “Our consular sections are opening to process visa applications for students and university visitors on a limited basis. Student visas are a high priority, and we will do everything possible to assist applicants in a timely manner, while ensuring the safety of our clients and staff. However, due to the very limited availability of our appointments, we may not be able to respond to all requests in time for the start of the fall semester. “
