France is expected to cook in a heatwave that will last between six and eight days, meteorologists warned.After a few days of respite from the last warm spell, temperatures started to rise again across the country on Thursday. National forecaster Météo France said temperatures would rise “from Thursday afternoon,” reaching between 34 ° C and 37 ° C in the northern half of the country, and up to 40 ° C in parts of the south.

The forecaster put 45 departments on orange alert for the heat. Nighttime temperatures are expected to remain above 20 ° C in Paris and parts of southwestern France.

The heatwave will initially hit the south of the Rhône Valley, the southwest, the Pays de la Loire region to the west and the Paris region, Météo France said.

Friday and Saturday could see temperatures reach 42 ° C locally in Pays de la Loire, New Aquitaine and Occitanie, approaching records in places. In the other departments on orange alert, the heat will also be marked, around 34 ° C to 38 ° C, locally 39 ° C, except on the coast.

Authorities in the capital have already activated a “level three” heat wave plan, as temperatures have risen, causing pollution levels to rise.
