PARIS, FRANCE – France sees a welcome increase in its wheat and barley exports to China, Reuters reported.A dozen Panamax ships have reportedly been booked for shipment to China in the first half of the 2020-2021 season. This is around 700,000 tonnes, according to traders, but could reach 1 million tonnes.

About 200,000 tonnes of French wheat have been shipped or are about to land, according to port data.

France’s disappointing harvest and the resulting drop in supply cost sales in Algeria, its main overseas market. However, China is seeking to further fill its wheat import quota following a World Trade Organization decision and is diversifying its grain supply.

Almost 700,000 tonnes of barley have already been shipped or are about to be loaded for China, Reuters he told me.

Traders estimate French barley sales to be at least 1 million tonnes in the first half of the season, on track to match last season’s 1.5 million.
